Things to look out for in this checklist include:

  • Skills – what range of skills does the company have? Are they using the latest web technology, or do they not seem to be embracing international standards? How efficient are their across the various elements of design?
  • Design – does the website company understand the functionality behind design? Do they make websites that look pretty, or websites that perform well? Are they able to do both?
  • Strategy – will the company work with you on each step of the process? Will you get regular feedback? Do they understand your key goals for the website? Is this translated into the design? What are their turnaround times like?

While these are just some of the questions that you should be asking, don’t stop there. Take the time to do a bit of research too. If no portfolio is shown, ask if you can view examples of their previous work. Find out what past clients have had to say about their experience. Contact the owners and ask them for their ideas. Get a quote and see if it meets your expectations. Once you have all of your facts together, you can make an informed decision before choosing the best website company for your needs.
