What to Look For in a Website Company

If you are looking for a website company, you may be searching the web for companies that look like they know what they are doing. You might be looking at websites, reading through testimonials, going through portfolios and even perusing the services offered by each company.

Let’s face it – finding a partner for your website needs is not a simple process. Your website is in many cases your primary tool for generating new business – especially if you do a lot of business on the web. How do you know what to look for, and how to you find a reliable website company that not only has the experience and skills to get the job done right, but also understands your specific goals?

Simple Website Company Checklist

For starters, you can take out a lot of the guess work by avoiding companies that do not have contact pages, support or clear information on their services. Once you have taken off these ‘no-go’ options off your list of website company possibilities, you can use the following checklist to separate the fair companies from the amazing web companies. Things to look out for in this checklist include:

  • Experience – does the company have experience in the website design field? Have they been running the business for a while, or is it a new business with no track record?
  • Support – is there a support system in place? Are you able to reach support staff for assistance when something needs to be updated? Can you get a quick response time from staff members who know how to assist?
  • Skills – what range of skills does the company have? Are they using the latest web technology, or do they not seem to be embracing international standards? How efficient are their across the various elements of design?
  • Design – does the website company understand the functionality behind design? Do they make websites that look pretty, or websites that perform well? Are they able to do both?
  • Strategy – will the company work with you on each step of the process? Will you get regular feedback? Do they understand your key goals for the website? Is this translated into the design? What are their turnaround times like?

While these are just some of the questions that you should be asking, don’t stop there. Take the time to do a bit of research too. If no portfolio is shown, ask if you can view examples of their previous work. Find out what past clients have had to say about their experience. Contact the owners and ask them for their ideas. Get a quote and see if it meets your expectations. Once you have all of your facts together, you can make an informed decision before choosing the best website company for your needs.
